Style, sophistication, fuel economy, there are lots of reasons to love the 2019 Honda Insight. The spacious, 5-seater sedan is Honda’s latest addition to its expanding lineup of alternative fuel vehicles and has a lot to offer. Here’s what we love:
Clean Power Everywhere
Powered by Honda’s third generation two-motor hybrid drivetrain, the all-new Insight has a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC Atkinson-cycle inline-4 engine paired to an electric propulsion motor capable of producing 197 lb.-ft. of torque and delivering a class-leading output of 151 horsepower and 40.5% thermal efficiency.
Additionally, Insight drivers can add more power to their battery by maximizing their energy regeneration through steering wheel-mounted Deceleration Selectors. These work in much the same was as transmission paddle shifters and allow drivers the opportunity to toggle between three levels of regenerative braking to increase or reduce regenerative braking, which increases battery charging and reduces stress on the brakes.
Insight drivers may also shift between three distinct driving modes — EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive — to accommodate driving conditions. When in EV Drive the Insight is powered by the elector motor and draws power solely from its battery; in Hybrid Drive, the gas engine powers a generator motor to supply electrical power to the drive motors; and when in Engine Drive, the gasoline engine connects directly to the drive wheels.
Oh, and that fuel economy? The 2019 Honda Insight earned itself a 55 mpg EPA city rating on LX and EX, and a 51 mpg EPA city rating on the Touring trim.* Not too shabby.
All Those Standard Features
Insight is sophisticated, refined and sporty with a rich interior cabin that offers passengers a premium, upscale driving experience. The Insight blends recognizable Accord and Civic design elements to craft a look that is definitively Honda yet uniquely its own.
On top of standard style and sophistication, standard features across Insight trim levels include:
- Multi-element LED headlights
- Push-button start
- Honda Sensing — Honda’s advanced suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies
Plus, unlike other hybrids with large battery packs that leave little room for rear storage, the Insight’s battery is stored under the rear seats, which allows for a spacious cargo area — 15.1 cubic ft. — and gives owners the the option of folding down the rear seats to make room for longer loads.
The Insight EX trim includes a standard 8-inch Display Audio with smartphone integration, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. The Insight Touring includes leather seating surfaces, an 8-way power driver’s seat, Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more.
